Emma Stirling is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and is artistic director of Recursion Co. Recently Emma collaborated with theatre maker Nick Finegan on a performance piece about the myth of Echo and Narcissus which was in NOW ’16 at the Yard Theatre (info here), followed by performances at Ovalhouse and Ugly Duck. ECHO_NARCISSUS was supported by Arts Council England. Her cross-disciplinary practice explores the intersections between live and video performance. As a poet she is interested in feminist reworkings of the lyric ‘I’, dialogue, and stillness in language.
Yates Norton is a graduate of Cambridge and Harvard Universities. He completed his Masters at the Courtauld Institute, London, researching the history and theory of ornament. His artistic practice includes collaborations with poets and artists in London, Cambridge and New York. Recently, he and Emma Stirling have been working on a piece exploring the role of narrative in poetry and image. Exhibitions include ‘Ornament by Design’ (Curated by Professor Katie Scott, Courtauld Gallery, Prints and Drawings Room, March 2016); ‘Eye and Hand’, an exhibition on Antoine Nicolas Joubert de l’Hiberderie, the 18th-century Lyonnais silk designer (more information). He is currently working with David Ruebain (CEO, Equality Challenge Unit) and Emma Stirling on an exhibition exploring the relationship between arts, policy and disability rights. He regularly writes and conducts research for artists and collectors.
